Skiathos Airport ( JSI - LGSK )

Located north of the small town of Skiathos, capital of the Greek island of the Aegean sea, the airport which sees only a few daily scheduled flights to Athens Olympic Airlines the year, sees its operating explode during July and August. Indeed, this part of the island is very popular among vacationers. English, Nordic and Italian tourists are very fond of this destination to top charm. These preferences are felt in traffic observed that I will detail below. The airport is beachfront. The track of barely 1,500 meters lined with either side by sea. Given the lack of space, the small road from the airport towards the center and the small tidal harbor passes the threshold. The planes are visible only a few meters! Imagine therefore the sensations can feel the onlookers who flock to the edge of the tiny fence to watch the planes pass only a few meters from their head ... An attraction alone stand behind the reactors planes pushing full speed while clinging ... a real feast for the spotters, amateurs and curious! Let's return to the airport itself. It consists of a tiny terminal located west of an oriented 02-20 runway. Only two parking permit to park aircraft, so it's a real headache for controllers to organize arrivals and departures besides that there is no taxiways! Runway 02 is mainly used for arrivals and departures, making a movement "back track" far end racket. Question traffic Olympic Airlines operates scheduled flights over Athens in the morning, afternoon and evening through Dash8-400. It may be that due to a greater influx Aegean A320 is engaged on these flights. In July and August, the number of seasonal charter flights are operated mainly on Friday, other days are much quieter. Charter flights are insured by Blue Panorama, Meridiana, Thompson, Thomas Cook, Volotea, SAS, Tarom, Niki and Transavia. There is no cargo or military activity. Expansion work is currently underway to shortly accommodate more aircraft simultaneously parking and airside new racquet 20 will have more distance.

Our spotting trip to Skiathos began in Brussels where we have stolen up to Vienna and Athens. After a transit 6:00 we gleefully exploited to Spotter in the Greek capital, we completed our third and final flight with a Dash 8-400 Olympic until our final destination. The complexity of flights was due to the fact that it is not in the habits of Belgian to go there on vacation and there are no direct flights, it was the only affordable alternative. We chose a small apartment which is 15 minutes walk from the terminal and just 3 minutes walk from the runway threshold 02! What more! To exploit other points of spot across easily and avoid the steps of 30 minutes in the heat and under a blazing sun, we rented a quad at very moderate prices but so practical! Shadow need a refreshment or a free wifi to scan radar, Amareto Bar welcomes you to the edge of the threshold 02! Conditions of happiness for spotters or family time while awaiting the arrival of the planes. Finally, let me share with you my impressions of thrills ... Believe me that when a plane goes to the tidal head and touch the wheels within 100 meters of you, it leaves you speechless and heart beats very strong ... Do not pay attention! But hang on the safety rail, close your eyes and feel the powerful and hot breath of a turbine 757 launched at full located 50 meters from you ... olala I think only to return for savor the moment of advantage! Enough literature, discover now the pictures above - below!
