Athens metropolis, capital of Greece, cradle of civilization. Athens is also an international airport which is located 30km east of the historic center of the city. The airport consists of two terminals located at the center of two numbered runways 03L-21R and 03R-21L. South of these two terminals, the other two buildings are designed for cargo operations and business aviation. Finally north, a maintenance center maintains the fleet based companies. Most of the flights are operated by Aegean to Europe with Airbus and that Olympic Airlines by its fleet composed exclusively of type Dash 8 aircraft in various versions, perform shuttles to the islands of the peninsula. Smaller exotic local companies operate regular flights with Hellenic Air, Astra or Greek Air. Major European companies both national and "low cost" perform regular flights to Athens. Red Air Canada, Delta, American from across the Atlantic and middle eastern companies are also present but mainly with small shareholders. Military flights are regularly observed as well as cargo flights operated by TNT, Star Air and DHL.
