Sydney Kingsford Airport ( SYD -  YSSY )                                    

 

Sydney is the most populous city in Australia and even the continent of Oceania. First city where the colonial boats were dropped amares, this city has never ceased to develop. On the state of New South Wales, the city has become the main entry point for thousands of travelers from around the world. Kingsford Airport is just 8km south of the city center. It is the largest airport on the continent. Three runways constitue the airport complex. There are two parallel "north-south" runways and a transversal one. The terminals are at the north center of the runway crossing axis. Terminal 1, to the west, is intended for international traffic, while Terminals 2 and 3, to the east, are assigned to domestic flights. T2 is specialized low-cost while T3 is occupied by Qantas. A freight terminal is located north of the complex, paired with T1. Runway 34L-16R is the longest and is mainly used for arrivals and departures of international flights. The shorter 34R-16L is mainly used for intra-Australian flights but also for flights from the east, Pacific Ocean side. The transverse 07-25 is used when cross winds. Australian companies have their bases in Sydney and continue most of the traffic. The low-cost occupies an important place. Qantas, Qantas Link, Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Tiger Airways and Regional Express operate on many destinations. Some flights are operated daily by small companies such as Air Pelican or Corporate Air that use small planes. Foreign flights are numerous and I will quote them in order of origin. From Europe, British Airways runs daily flights from London via Singapore. From the Middle East, several flights are provided by the very large carriers Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways. South East Asia is connected by Thai Airways, Cebu Pacific, Vietnam Airways, Singapore Airlines, Air Asia, Scoot and Malaysian. Several Asian flights are seen with Air China, China Eastern, China Southern, Xiamen, Hainan, Jal, ANA and Cathay. The Americas connected thanks to Air Canada, United, Delta, American Airlines, Aeromexico and Latam. Pacific airlines serve Sydney including Air New Zealand, Philippines Airlines, Air Calin, Air Fiji and Air Nuigini. Every day, cargo flights serve the freight terminal. Qantas Freighter, Atlas Air, Emirates Cargo, Singapore Airlines Cargo and Cathay Cargo share the traffic. East of the complex, a courier booth hosts some UPS, FedEx and DHL flights. In order to disturb at least the sleep of the sydneyiens, the airport closes the night and for the last flights of the evening, they use the parallel tracks in opposite direction, ie in the direction arrived from the sea side and departures towards the sea. The observed traffic is very important in the morning. The first national and low-cost flights take off at 6am, when the airport opens. International and long-haul flights arrive between 6 and 10am. Add to that the many arrivals of domestic flights. Sometimes the rush is such that planes have to wait for a location at the doors to free before they can park. As soon as the passengers are disembarked, many are the planes towed to a parking space to release doors. The rush of long-haul and long-haul departures starts at 9am and ends around 1pm. In the afternoon, the observed traffic is now only Australian companies with the exception of some Asian flights or the Middle East.

The Australian dream has been made accessible by the fact that Asian companies are trying to break into the European market on these roads through China. We have not waited to book our tickets for the country of kangaroos taking advantage of exceptional conditions while paying a competitive challenge price! Our Air China flights have brought us from Frankfurt, the Australian metropolis via Shanghai after 21 hours of flight! There have been visits to Circular Quay, Harbor Bridge and the famous Sydney Opera House. Of course, we dedicated a few hours to spotting. The first day, we discovered the official platform of spotting developed by the airport at the foot of the control tower. In the morning we observed both Australian and international flights. A few days later, we spent two hours in the afternoon on the small beach at the edge of the runway, an opportunity to take colors on both the skin and the sensor of the device but soon unexpected clouds are come to make the holiday turmoil. Finally, we dedicated a second morning to the top of the large car park of the domestic terminal, from where we took the photos under a generous sun and a blue sky worthy of the most beautiful postcards of the country. While waiting to board our return flight, we spent a rich hour of late afternoon at the top of the International terminal parking lot. I think even though it was fully worth planning a spot trip to Sydney, but spending more time there for Spotter would not have been necessary because the traffic is extremely repetitive day after day. Apart from the big companies of the country, few "small exotics" serve Sydney. A local Spotter told me that apart from a few cargo ships, their eyes are on the radar for flights from China where airlines are customary liveries special ..
